Having worked for an Attorney General who cared about the people of Texas and how the office should be used for their benefit, it is a matter of personal disappointment and sadness to see how far that office has fallen. Jim Mattox made a positive difference for most Texans.

Thanks for these stories, depressing as they are. Every time I read things like this, a naive portion of my brain says “This MUST be the tipping point where people rise up and say ‘NO MORE.’” But that never happens in Texas, does it?

On more joyous news, congratulations on your new status as a Brewster County homeowner and taxpayer. Is this a full-time move, or is this just your summer manse?

Thank you for your dedicated writing and updates. The Uvalde news, which came really as no surprise, was gutwrenching and I honestly try not to think too hard about Uvalde at all because that same day I had gone to my kid's end of school year party and shudder to think "what if".

I read that, unfortunately, in Texas, due to the abortion ban, of the 10,000 more babies born in Texas last year than would have been expected, at least 40 will wind up in our overburdened, hideous system. About Uvalde -- the sense I have a is that the shooter's weapon - designed to kill people quickly and in large numbers -- was beyond what the police were prepared for. Just a few short years after the ban on those same weapons was lifted in 2004, homicides in border towns jumped 60%. Their power allows outlaws to act with impunity, just as the Uvalde shooter did. Fingers crossed that Ken Paxton finally gets caught in the dark web that he's spun!

I love/hate this new series (hate bc it's so sad). Top marks for the dodgeball gif. On the foster care front--have you read We Were a Family? the kids in that case of the family whose adoptive mom deliberately plunged the family's car off teh Pacific Coast HW were from...TEXAS! And, they had family member who wanted them and could have taken care of them. Tragic case, heartbreaking but very well done book.

"Unfortunately, in Texas" is an outstanding idea. Unfortunately, for you, there is too much material to cover. You could do a long piece under this title every day, and you are just the man to do it!! Anyway, this is excellent, and I love the concept. You may end up providing an historical record of our state's institutional collapse.
