The Senate Impeachment Rules try to create the Illusion of Impartiality. Whether that really exists will be a function of how much Dan Patrick puts his thumb on the scale .
You did an excellent job explaining the most salient points. It's like you're a lawyer or something. 😉 Meanwhile, Paxton loses an immigration case in the Supreme Court. He's an embarrassment in addition to being criminally corrupt. But my money is on Patrick trying his damnedest to refuse the House any satisfaction in this (or any other) matter. The evidence, however, is so overwhelming even Patrick may be forced through sheer ignominy to allow conviction.
You make a great point — the Paxton impeachment may well become a casualty of an ongoing war between the Senate and the House. Still, I wouldn't want to be a senator listening to weeks of testimony about Ken's malfeasance and then having to vote to acquit.
Very well done.
Thank you, Patty! I appreciate you hanging in there through all the recesses. :-)
What a mess. I sure hope they do the right thing. I don’t think they will but there’s always hope.
Thanks, Joanna! To paraphrase Winston Churchill, "When all else fails, maybe the Texas Senate will do the right thing."
It’s a great explanation, thank you for your expertise !!
