Excellent thinking, Deece. I am still of the mind those might be the greatest 272 words ever spoken on the American continent. Every American ought to memorize the Gettysburg Address.

Thank you. Doris Kearns Goodwin’s “Team of Rivals” (2005 Simon & Schuster), noted that Lincoln’s Address was “immortal” with the attendees recognizing this immediately. I too recall memorizing the Address in school.

"Team of Rivals" in one of the best books about politics and governance. Re the Gettysburg Address, I recommend Garry Wills's "Lincoln at Gettysburg."

Both MATX and David Davis mention having to memorize the Gettysburg Address in school. I am sorry I never had to do that, and an memorizing it now. Such a great speech, and the epitome of what America means!

The Gettysburg address is the only words of a president I ever memorized and I remember them to this day. I greatly appreciate you keeping their meaning alive.
