Your Turn: Election Night Races to Watch
I have the smartest readers (that's YOU!) It's time to hear from you.
November 2, 2022
Dear Readers,
I am going to publish a Life Its Ownself guide to the November 8th Election Night, and you’re going to write it. I’m asking you to identify races to watch, and why: what they tell us about the larger currents roiling our political and cultural waters. It can be any election at any level — County Librarian in Moosejaw County, Idaho — although in keeping with our Tex-centricity, I hope most of them will be in Texas. After naming the race, say a few words — no more than a sentence or two — about why you think the race is one to watch. For example:
Texas CD-28: Henry Cuellar vs. Cassy Garcia. Cuellar’s fellow Democrats think he’s too conservative, and have tried to take him down for two election cycles. Now Republicans nationally are funding challenger Garcia, hoping the much-discussed GOP surge in South Texas can power her to victory.
You can share your ideas in the comments below or submit your input to lifeitsownself@substack.com. If you wish your input to be anonymous, you must say so clearly. The deadline is noon on Friday, November 4. I will assemble your answers and publish them that evening. I reserve the right to edit out profane, tasteless or defamatory content.
I am pleased by and grateful for the intelligence of my readers. Now’s your chance to share your wisdom with each other. I hope you will all participate.
I like this idea. I hope there’ll be some commentaries.
